Graduate Student Awards

The Irene E. Nordwich Foundation provides awards to to masters and doctoral students registered in the College of Nursing, University of Manitoba, or the Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing, Western University. The awards are intended to:

  • Support academic excellence in nursing;
  • Recognize student leadership and involvement within their nursing program, university, the nursing profession, and/or community; and,
  • Ease the financial burden of a university education.

Awards are available to masters and doctoral students in Graduate Programs in Nursing at the designated universities. A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, or equivalent, in the previous academic year is required for eligibility.

Preference will be given to full-time nursing students, with only one award during a student’s program of study. Financial need, special life circumstances, demonstrated leadership within the college/school, university, and community, as well contributions within the profession of nursing, are considered in granting the awards.

The value of Graduate Awards is $2,000, although this amount may be adjusted at the discretion of the Foundation. The Foundation also determines the number of awards in any given year and reserves the right to post the names of recipients. Should a student accept an award, consent to have their name posted on the Foundation website is implied.

The online Application Form will be available between April 1st and midnight on May 31st (CDT). Any live applications on the Foundation website time stamped past midnight will not be considered by the Foundation. Incomplete applications cannot be submitted through the online process. All decisions of the Foundation are final and not subject to appeals.
